I share his sentiments and add a few boring (mom) things I've been thinking about.
- I'm not going to feel bad for embarrassing my kids later in life because I feel like Gwen makes a fool of me about 100 times a day. It's usually a less public showing but she makes up for that in quantity and gusto.
- I can't help but get nostalgic about the fact that Gwen's going to be 1 year old in a week. Time has never felt trickier. It definitely feels like she's been here that long but I can also remember walking out of the hospital with her like it was yesterday. It makes me sad to know I can never hold tiny Gwen again. I know there will be other babies I can hold but not a Gwen one. Anyway, same old story.
- I got an email from our energy company today telling me that "New York City has only seen extended week-long heat waves like that seven times since tracking started in 1896." Lucky us. So help me if we get another one.
- What can we do for our family talent show? So far our brainstorming sessions have landed us with re-enacting scenes from various television shows. I'm pretty sure this is a bad idea, please help.
And now some pictures that simply couldn't go unposted.
I was tempted to photoshop our grody walls/floor but this is reality, guys. 100 years of poorly painted reality. Left to drip dry. I try not to think about it.

1) the embarrassing your kids later in life thing kinda kills me but also makes so much sense.
2) I'm getting so antsy to hold our tiny baby and will try to remember it so hard so when he's one I can remember.
3) I can relate to the grody walls/floors but we've only got 90 years of poor paint/stain jobs going. gwen being cute more than makes up for it, anyhow.
i like the way you think about your kid embarrassing you - genius. i know what you mean about living in old houses - it can be majorly grody. but at least you've got wood floors, right!? gwen is so cute, i want to caption all of these pictures, but i'm going to restrain myself.
Couple things: Is that the Garbetts you know? And about the embarrassing your kids: I know I embarrassed you about a million times, and maybe still do, for example, when you would see me out walking when you were on the bus for school. So how do you feel about those things now? Why do we always think other people have cooler moms than we do? And thank goodness, we eventually figure out that that's not true. And you can never recapture lost time. That's why I always wanted to say to girls "you'll never be 15 again, adulthood lasts forever once it starts, and someday you will long to be 15 again." Just musing...
I have a crush on that girl.
I want that house too.
I like the talent show trick the parents did in Dan in Real Life where they spit out the water.
My comments are in bullet points
